Leadbitter were the successful design and build contractor appointed by Linc Cymru to design and deliver this project with a Design and Build form of contract. Gallese Design were appointed by Linc Cymru Housing Association to design the M & E concept incorporating sustainable engineering where reasonably feasible. The project is a 43 apartment Extracare 'home' for Linc Cymru Housing Association. Gallese Design remained the concept guardian throughout the project, liaising with Leadbitter and Linc Cymru to manage and advise on practical and financial departures from design intent, with quality control commentary provided. The client aspiration was to provide 'green' engineering and sustainable features, integrated within the Mechanical and Electrical engineering systems and feedback received reflects positively with previous Linc Cymru Extracare building benchmarking. The architectural form was already designed, which limited 'real' sustainability in our opinion.
Llys Glyncoed is a timber frame construction with zinc roofing, timber and render cladding. It was built to the Building Regulations thermal values of Part L2A 2005 and has gas fired low surface temperature heating throughout, rainwater harvesting, solar thermal hot water generation and heat pump comfort cooling to lounge areas during the summer months to provide heat relief. Commercial sprinkler protection has been provided and there is low energy lighting throughout.
