Stradform were awarded the prestigious and highly complex project on a Design and Build form of contract with CAPITA providing multi discipline design inclusive of mechanical and electrical engineering.
Gallese Design were approached and appointed initially to provide guidance in to potential 'value engineering' without compromising the Employers Requirement intent. The appointment was enhanced to support the project in a Commissioning Management role involving the main sub contractors and may specialist services teams.
The new Police Headquarters is a traditional brick exterior, steel framed with internal covered courtyard, with all floors being heavily cellurised and of course containing secure cells on two floors with a basement car park.
The M & E design incorporated energy efficient systems wherever possible and the aims and aspirations of BREEAM were considered throughout. An 'Excellent' rating has been achieved. All cells are air conditioned and all offices, interview rooms, and support services room provided with VRF heat pump comfort cooling all centrally controlled by a BEMS.
Environmental features include heat pump comfort cooling throughout the lettable office areas, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery thermal wheel air handling units for the offices and toilet areas, high efficiency fluorescent lighting internally and combination fluorescent LED and metal halide lighting externally to compliment the architecture.
